The antipsychotic drug, Zyprexa, is commonly used in the treatment of schizophrenia and other psychiatric disorders. Though patients and physicians recognize the drug is highly effective for it’s intended purpose, Zyprexa has been found to have a nasty side effect of causing diabetic related injuries in a substantial number of those ingesting the drug.
These patients are now facing a life of blood glucose monitoring, diet control and diabetic medications. Further complications they may experience are blindness, amputations, heart disease and death.
When Eli Lilly made the settlement offer of $700 million in June 2005, the law firm of Reich & Binstock did not realize how quickly the settlement process would work. We began making payments to our clients in October 2006. To date we have paid just over one third of our client base. We expect to receive funds for approximately 225 more clients during the month of January for payment in February.
The defense counsel for Eli Lilly has worked diligently to process the claims in a timely manner. Though there was a slow down through the holidays, we are confident the settlement will continue at the rapid track in which it began.
