The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) has found no link between the presence of Chinese drywall and the deaths of 11 people living in homes containing tainted Chinese drywall. See the ABC news story here.

according to a CDC report on Monday the individuals in question died "without exception" due to “preexisting chronic health conditions unrelated to imported drywall exposure.”

The Consumer Products Safety Commission previously made similar findings.

Thankfully, it appears that Chinese drywall was not the cause of these deaths; however, this does not mean that there are no detrimental health effects of Chinese drywall on the people living in affected homes.

Thousands of homes across the southeastern United States were built or remodeled using imported Chinese drywall. The drywall has been linked to corrosion of metal in the homes and can wreak havoc on the electrical wiring and air conditioning units in homes that contain Chinese drywall.

To date there health officials have found no long term health effects associated with Chinese drywall exposure but more testing and studies are need.
