The U.S. Consumer Product Saftey Commission (CPSC) in cooperation with Infantino LLC has announced the recall of over one million “SlingRider” and “Wendy Bellissimo” infant slings. The CPSC is urging parents to immediately stop using the slings for infants younger than four months due to a risk of suffocation.
The CPSC is aware of three infants deaths that occurred using these slings in 2009. The fatal accidents involved a 3-month-old, 7-week-old, and a 6-day-old.
Infantino sold the “SlingRider” sling in both the United States and Canada from January of 2003 until March of 2010 at Target, Walmart, Babies R’ Us and other baby and children’s vendors for about $25. “Wendy Bellissimo” brander slings were sold exclusively at Babies R’ Us.
Consumers should stop using the recalled slings immediately and contact Infantino to receive a free replacement product, with a choice of a Wrap & Tie infant carrier, or a 2 in 1 Shopping Cart Cover, or a 3 in 1 Grow & Play Activity Gym.
