The Unites States Food and Drug Administration is advising consumers to immediately discontinue use of face paints distributed by Oriental Trading Co. and its subsidiary Fun Express due to reports of skin reactions in some children.
The FDA has been made aware of a cluster of adverse reactions that occurred in several children on the same day of an organized event where the children had their faces painted. The reactions included rashes, itchiness, burning sensation, and swelling in the area where the face paint was applied to the skin.
The FDA is urging consumers to immediately stop using the face paints and discard them or return the products to the retailer. Consumers and healthcare professionals are encouraged to report any adverse reactions suffered as a result of using the face paints to the FDA’s MedWatch Adverse Event Reporting System which can be found online here.
