Two calls to 911 from the emergency waiting room of Martin Luther King, Jr.-Harbor Hospital in Los Angeles did not help Edith Isabel Rodriquez, 43. Ms. Rodriquez died of a perforated bowel after 45 minutes of bleeding from the mouth in the emergency waiting room.

Two desperate calls were made to 911 to get her help while she was waiting to get help in the emergency room, one call was from her husband and the other was from a bystander in the emergency room. The 911 dispatcher refused to send an ambulance to pick her up and take her to another facility and actually argued with the bystander that called on Ms. Rodriguez behalf. Ms. Rodriquez died being wheeled out of the hospital by the police who were asked to help but instead arrested her on a warrant. This wasn’t the first major incident at Martin-Luther King, Jr.-Harbor Hospital. The hospital has since been warned by federal inspectors that they will lose federal funding if things do not improve.
