As of January 13, 2009, about 535,000 cribs produced by Stork Craft manufacturing have been recalled due to suffocation and entrapment risks. The hazards associated with the cribs are from the metal support brackets used to support the mattress. These brackets can crack and eventually break, resulting in a dangerous gap between the mattress and crib rails. Due to this gap, a child can easily become trapped and suffocate. There have already been ten incidents in which one or more of the brackets have been reported broken. One child suffered bruises to the forehead, and another became trapped in the dangerous gap.

All cribs that have been manufactured and distributed between May 2000 and November 2008 are all included in the recall. The cribs ranged in price between $100 and $400, and were sold nationwide. They came in many styles and finishes, and the “storkcraft baby” logo is usually marked on the rails of the crib. If you or someone you know has purchased a recalled crib then contact the office of Reich and Binstock for an evaluation, and make sure that your child is not at risk.
